Kyrgyz president sets early parliamentary election for Nov 30 - press service

BISHKEK. Sept 30 (Interfax) - An early election to the Kyrgyz parliament has been scheduled for November 30, 2025, the presidential press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

"President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov has set the early election to the Jogorku Kenesh [Kyrgyz parliament] for November 30," the statement said.

Japarov has signed an executive order, instructing the Central Elections Commission (CEC) to organizing the voting process, including with the use of the electronic voting system. Local state administrations and local authorities have been tasked with facilitating the work of the corresponding authorized bodies and election commissions in tackling organizational and technical issues during preparations for the election and the election itself.

On September 25, Kyrgyz MPs supported the proposal to allow the country's current parliament to dissolve itself.

Under the Kyrgyz constitution, a decision on the parliament's self-dissolution is adopted by a majority vote, or at least two-thirds (60 MPs), and only at the initiative of one-third (30) of MPs from the total number of members of parliament, which has 90 seats.

The current parliament's term in office was supposed to expire in the fall of 2026.

In June, the Kyrgyz president signed into law a bill that amends the law on presidential and parliamentary elections. For electoral purposes, the amendments propose dividing Kyrgyzstan into 30 multi-seat districts and electing three MPs, two men and one woman, in each of them. Political parties can nominate MP candidates. The initiative also allows citizens to nominate themselves.

Another amendment envisages that Kyrgyz citizens will also be able to use the electronic voting system. Previously, they could cast their ballots only at polling stations.

Before Kyrgyzstan's electoral legislation was amended, 54 parliamentarians were elected based on party lists and 36 in single-seat districts.
