Algeria invites Russia to bid in tenders for oil and gas fields, new power plants

MOSCOW. Sept 10 (Interfax) - Algeria has invited Russian companies to bid in new tenders to develop oil and gas fields, as well as build power plants and grid infrastructure.

The invitation was made at a meeting Russian Deputy Energy Minister Roman Marshavin held with Algerian Energy, Mining and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab and other members of the Cabinet.

In the course of the talks, the parties discussed the two countries' cooperation within the context of OPEC+ and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in detail. They agreed to closely coordinate efforts to protect the interests of countries that export oil and gas to global energy markets.

"The main priorities that we believe it is important to promote through joint efforts include facilitating free trade in energy resources, sharing technology, protecting critically important infrastructure, as well as expanding the number of members of the GECF and its dialog partners, including the SCO, APEC and other forums," Marshavin said.

The parties also agreed to begin joint projects in other African countries, including in the field of electricity, and discussed potential areas in which the Energy Ministry and fuel and energy companies could work with banking institutions in Africa.
