Yakutia planning output of at least 50 mln tonnes of coal in 2025 - regional head

YAKUTSK. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Yakutia plans to increase coal production and produce a record 50 million tonnes in 2025, the head of the republic, Aisen Nikolayev, said during a broadcast on the Yakutia 24 television channel.

"This year, coal mining companies in Yakutia will surpass the milestone of 50 million tonnes of coal production. Thanks to the work of our large companies Elgugol, Kolmar, Yakutugol and small coal companies, we are heading for a record. I am confident it will be achieved," Nikolayev said.

Coal production in the region amounted to 30 million tonnes in 7M, he said. This is more than 10% higher than the same period last year.

It is expected that coal exports will remain at the level of 2023-2024 this year and reach 26.3 million tonnes.

Citing the region's industry minister, Maxim Tereshchenko, it was reported that Yakutia plans to increase coal production 5% in 2025 compared to the previous year's figure, to 52 million tonnes, setting a new regional record.

Yakutia increased coal production 30% in 2024, to 49.5 million tonnes. At that time, the republic ranked first in the Far Eastern Federal District in coal production and second in Russia.
