Trump Route to change S. Caucasus geopolitical map - Azerbaijani PM
BAKU. Aug 26 (Interfax) - The Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, which provides unimpeded connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan through the Armenian territory, will significantly change the geopolitical map of the South Caucasus, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said.
"The joint declaration, signed in Washington on August 8 at the end of a trilateral summit of the leaders of Azerbaijan, the United States and Armenia, definitively underlines the importance of unhampered and solid connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. A special infrastructure initiative backed by the United States, the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), is envisaged for that purpose. That will cause significant changes both for Azerbaijan and for the economic and geopolitical map of the entire region," Asadov said at a special meeting of the Azerbaijani government summing up results of the Azerbaijani president's trip to Washington.
The opening of transport and communication routes in the region is a key provision of the joint declaration, he said, as cited by the Report news agency.
"After the Second Karabakh War, President Ilham Aliyev said repeatedly that an unhampered land corridor from the main part of Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan needed to be created. Despite all difficulties, disagreements and different positions, the Armenian side accepted that demand of the head of state as well," Asadov said.
