Russia increases buckwheat exports to China 12% in 7M, grain exports stop - Chinese customs
MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - Russia increased buckwheat exports to China 12% year-on-year to $56.5 million in the first seven months of 2025, compared to $50.4 million a year previously, the Chinese General Customs Administration said.
Exports in July remained practically unchanged from the $7.1 million in July 2024.
Russia is the leading supplier of buckwheat to the Chinese market by a large margin. China imported it from six countries in 7M, Canada in second place with $6.3 million, Bolivia third with $6.1 million, as well as Peru, the Republic of Korea and Slovenia.
Buckwheat grain exports from Russia to China were stopped in May. Customs statistics show that $12,800 was exported in April, while the results for January-April 2025 are practically the same as the $1.3 million from 7M 2024 due to the large export volumes at the beginning of this year, exports increasing 2.4-fold YoY to almost $0.9 million in January.
As reported, Russia supplied $77.8 million of buckwheat to China in 2024, a 1.4-fold increase from $55.8 million in 2023. Oat exports totaled $51.8 million, up 1.6-fold from $31.9 million.
