MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax) - The European Union imported 3.25 million tonnes of mineral fertilizer for almost 1.2 billion euros, it follows from Eurostat data.

This was an increase of 48% year-on-year in weight terms and 56% in value terms.

EU countries imported 911,000 tonnes of fertilizer from Russia in June, a 2.3-fold increase month-on-month and a 3.3-fold increase year-on-year. The imports were worth 331.5 million euros, the highest monthly indicator since January 2022.

In May, the European Parliament approved a decision to increase import duties on Russian fertilizer. On top of the existing ad valorem duty of 6.5%, a specific duty of 40 euros per tonne for nitrogen fertilizers and 45 euros per tonne for compound fertilizers came into effect on July 1. The specific rate will be gradually increased up to a threshold over the next three years.
