Russia supports Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement brokered by U.S

CHOLPON-ATA. Aug 15 (Interfax) - Armenia is a strategic ally of Russia and Russia supports whatever is good for this country, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said when asked about the so-called "Trump Route."

"Armenia is our strategic ally and if Armenia believes that something is good for them, then we, of course, support Armenia here. If they think that the signing of this declaration in Washington secures more security guarantees, this is good, because we also support peace processes in the South Caucasus. This fully and completely meets our interests," Overchuk told reporters in Kyrgyzstan.

"Of course, within the context of the agreements that clearly could be reached, there are certain nuances that we will have to clarify with the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides," he said.

"We're very cautious about this, because we believe that any non-regional players who might come here [could] upset the geopolitical balance, which will have negative consequences," Overchuk said.

Asked whether this was discussed with Armenian Nikol Pashinyan, he said "we talked about this with everyone." There has also been an exchange of views with Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref regarding the geopolitical situation in the South Caucasus, Overchuk added.
