Mechel's Southern Kuzbass Coal Co commissions 1.4 mln t coal face at Sibirginskaya mine

KEMEROVO. Aug 13 (Interfax) - The Mechel group's Southern Kuzbass Coal Company from the Kemerovo region has commissioned new coalface at the Sibirginskaya deep mine with coking coal reserves of 1.4 million tonnes, Mechel's press office said.

The new coal face is 264 meters below surface with 2.5 km of mine working and seams 3.5 meters wide on average. It will take 18 months to mine the coal reserves. The equipment meets health and safety requirements.

Southern Kuzbass Coal Company's assets include three deep mines, four strip mines, four washing plants and a number of other auxiliary enterprises, all in the Kemerovo region.

The company has said in reporting that it reduced coal output 12.9% to 6/349 million tonnes and shipments 6.3% to 4.719 million tonnes in 2024.
