Upcoming Putin-Trump meeting may become historic event where Russia's position to be clearly communicated to U.S. leadership - Dmitriev
MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax) - An upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump will be a historic event and will help communicate Russia's position to the U.S. leadership directly, Russian presidential envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev said.
"Undeniably, a summit between the Russian and U.S. leaders planned for next week might become an important historic event, an event where Russia's position will be clearly communicated to President Trump," Dmitriev told journalists.
"We hope this dialogue will continue even more actively, including along the economic track," he said.
Russia and the United States are carrying out an important dialogue in various areas, yet Russia's opponents are trying to thwart it and misinform the U.S. leadership, Dmitriev said.
"We note that a very important dialogue is underway with the United States in a variety of areas. Lots of Russia's opponents are trying to thwart this dialogue, to hinder it and to misinform the U.S. leadership about various facts," Dmitriev told the press on Thursday.
The dialogue allows Russia to clearly convey its position, he said.
The dialogue allows informing U.S. partners about "the Russian economic growth, which significantly exceeds the actual stagnation in the UK and the EU economy," Dmitriev said. Russia can also tell how it deals with various forms of pressure on its market and voice the readiness for constructive and productive dialogue with the United States, he said.
"We see that joint investments, including those made together with U.S. investors, projects in the Arctic, rare earths, and infrastructural projects may be mutually advantageous to Russia and the United States. We can develop joint investments in technological companies and many others," Dmitriev said.
"As the dialogue starts bear fruit, the fruit will be economic. We said that U.S. companies lost over $300 billion by leaving the Russian market. We observe a considerable interest of U.S. companies in coming back," he said.
Reinstatement of the Russia-U.S. dialogue will bear economic fruit to both Russian companies and U.S. investors willing to come to the Russian market, Dmitriev said.
