Russia favors cooperation in developing int'l transport corridors - Deputy PM Patrushev
ASHGABAT. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Russia can make its contribution to promoting global transport services between landlocked countries, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said.
"Russia consistently favors active international cooperation in developing transport corridors and facilitating communication between various parts of the world," Patrushev said in his remarks at the Third UN Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries in Turkmenistan, which were aired on Russia's Channel One television.
"Our country possesses considerable transit potential, which makes it possible to optimize routes, reduce the time of international cargo transportation, and guarantee its reliability. By doing so, we can make our contribution to promoting global transport communication," Patrushev said.
"The East-West route is Russia's main corridor," he said.
"Apart from that, we are developing the North-South international transport corridor linking Russia with the countries of Central and South Asia, the Persian Gulf, and East Africa. That is, it covers a number of landlocked countries," Patrushev said, adding that this transport route is actively operating already.
