Ukraine's industrial production down 1.6% in May 2025 YoY - statistics

MOSCOW. July 31 (Interfax) - Industrial production in Ukraine went down 1.6% year-on-year in May 2025, having fallen by 6.4% in April, by 6.4% in March, by 8.8% in February, and by 4.8% in January, Ukrainian media said, citing data from the State Statistics Service.

Industrial production increased 3.8% month-on-month in May 2025, the service said.

Specifically, production dropped by 7.8% year-on-year in mining and quarrying, by 5.9% in crude oil and natural gas extraction, and by 5.6% in the metal ores sector, but grew 5.5% in minerals extraction and quarrying.

The biggest declines in May 2025 were recorded in black and brown coal mining, which saw a 26.2% decrease, production of coke and petrochemicals (-15.1%), production of food, drinks and tobacco (-6.1%), machine building (-0.8%), and electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air supply (-0.3%).

Meanwhile, production of computers, electronics and optical products grew by 35%, alongside an increase of 21% in the pharmaceutical sector, of 17.4% in electric equipment manufacturing, of 12.7% in the textile sector, of 9.1% in metallurgy and production of metal goods, of 6.3% in rubber and plastic product manufacturing, of 3.7% in motor vehicle manufacturing, and of 0.8% in the processing industry.

Ukraine's industrial production fell 5.1% year-on-year in January-May 2025, with the largest declines reported in mining and quarrying, (-14.1%), electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air supply (-3.1%), and in the processing industry (-1.8%).

As previously reported, industrial production in Ukraine, according to updated information, grew by 4.6% in 2024.
