Kamchatka quake the strongest to occur globally since 2011 - U.S. Geological Survey
WASHINGTON. July 30 (Interfax) - The magnitude 8.8 earthquake centered off the Kamchatka Peninsula was the most powerful quake to occur globally since 2011 and among the top ten strongest recorded since 1900, the U.S. Geological Survey said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The 29 July 2025, magnitude 8.8 Kamchatka earthquake is the largest event to occur globally since the 2011 magnitude 9 Tohoku, Japan earthquake, and among the top ten largest earthquakes to occur globally since 1900," the statement said.
