Russian, Ukrainian draft memorandums diametrically opposed, complex diplomatic work needed - Kremlin
MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax) - The Kremlin believes that it is impossible to promptly bridge the gap between the diametrically opposed approaches of Russia and Ukraine to the draft memorandums, and complex diplomatic work is needed.
"The approaches to the draft memorandums exchanged during the second round are diametrically opposed today. It is hardly possible to bridge this gap very quickly. Highly complex diplomatic work will be needed for that," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Friday.
"A top-level meeting can and should finalize the settlement process and seal all the modalities and agreements that have yet to be worked out during expert work. It is impossible to do it the other way round," Peskov said when asked whether the prospect of a meeting between the heads of Russia and Ukraine has become more realistic after the third round of talks in Istanbul and whether the Kremlin sees Kiev's proposal to hold it before the end of August as feasible.
"Is it possible to complete such a difficult process within 30 days? Obviously, it is hardly possible," he said.
