Flights from Russia to Dominican Republic could resume in winter - Russian Transport Ministry

MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - Flights between Russia and the Dominican Republic could be resumed in the upcoming winter season "if the necessary agreements are reached," the Russian Transport Ministry said in a statement.

This issue was discussed by the two countries' aviation authorities via the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) at the initiative of the Dominican Republic.

"Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Russian Federation Alejandro Arias Zarzuela underscored the high interest in resuming these flights and noted that Russian tourists will be very welcome at the republic's resorts. The Transport Ministry and Rosaviatsiya stand ready to provide all-round assistance in this matter," the statement said.

Flights between Russia and the Dominican Republic were suspended following the introduction of sanctions against Russian air carriers. Before 2023, Azur Air and Nordwind operated direct flights to nine destinations in the Dominican Republic, including to the capital Santo Domingo and popular resorts in Punta Cana, La Romana, Samana, and Puerto Plata. Passenger traffic to the Dominican Republic topped 400,000 before the Covid-19 pandemic.
