Global demand for gas up 20 bcm in 5M 2025, will increase by third by 2050 - Gazprom CEO

MOSCOW. June 27 (Interfax) - Global gas consumption increased by 20 billion cubic meters in the first five months and will grow by a third by 2050, Gazprom quoted CEO Alexei Miller as saying.

Miller said that providing stable access to clean and efficient energy was still a priority in the development of the global economy, which is why demand for natural gas will continue to grow.

"Global gas consumption increased by 20 bcm year-on-year in the first five months of 2025. It is forecast to grow by approximately a third by 2050," he said.

Miller said that electricity production would contribute most to the increase in demand for gas. "This is also due to the active development of data centers and the artificial intelligence industry. They both require substantial capacities and uninterrupted energy supply. Moreover, due to the instability of renewable energy, gas is essential to provide a balance in energy sources," he said.
