Russian, Bahrain discuss creating Russian grain hub - Putin

ST. PETERSBURG. June 20 (Interfax) - Russia and Bahrain could create a hub for Russian wheat shipments, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a St. Petersburg International Economic Forum plenary session on Friday.

"Together with our friends from Bahrain, we are going to create a whole hub for shipping wheat from Russia," Putin said.

"Very many countries of the Arab world are interested in it [shipments]. We will move in this direction step by step," he said.

Russia is the world's biggest wheat exporter. This season (ending on June 30) its exports will have totaled about 44 million tonnes, Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut said before.

In 2024 Russia harvested 125.9 million tonnes of grain, including 82.6 million tonnes of wheat.
