Russian airlines' planes should be protected from sanctions if flights to U.S. resume - Federal Air Transport Agency

ST. PETERSBURG. June 20 (Interfax) - Russian airlines' planes arriving in the U.S. should be protected from sanctions if flights to the country are resumed, head of Federal Air Transport Agency Dmitry Yadrov said.

"It's very important to ensure security for aircraft arriving in the U.S., so that no sanctions are imposed on them," Yadrov told journalists at the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

He said that both sanctions against Russian carriers and restrictions on the use of airspace had been imposed by the U.S. "For that reason we will have to wait and see how our [American] colleagues move forward in this matter," he said, asked by journalists about the possibility of flights being resumed.
