Rosatom, Rosneft ink long-term contract to build nuclear ice breaker for Vostok Oil

MOSCOW. June 18 (Interfax) - Rosatom and Rosneft plan to sign a long-term contract to build a nuclear-powered ice breaker for use in the Vostok Oil project, Vladimir Panov, deputy chairman of the State Commission on the Arctic Development and Rosatom's special Arctic envoy, said in an interview with Interfax.

"Rosneft is implementing the large-scale Vostok Oil project in the north of the Krasnoyarsk territory, with plans to sign the first long-term contract for a nuclear ice breaker to be used in the project," he said.

Rosneft's flagship Vostok Oil project provides for the development of oil fields in Taymyr. The perimeter of the Vostok Oil project was expanded from 52 to 60 license areas in 2024 and the resource base was increased to 7 billion tonnes of oil.

Rosneft is continuing pilot development of the Payakha, Ichemmin, and Baykalovskoye fields. Pilot production has begun at the Payakhskoye and Ichemmin fields, and oil transportation by truck has been organized. The construction of the Vankor-Payakha-Sever Bay oil trunk line continues. Most of a backup section of the pipeline across the Yenisei river has now been completed. The construction of two cargo berths and a berth for the port fleet at Port Sever Bay is at an advanced stage.
