Azerbaijani president discusses joint projects at meetings with Turkish, Pakistani energy ministers

BAKU. June 2 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev met with several heads of foreign delegations attending the Baku Energy Week on Monday.

In particular, Aliyev received Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.

"The discussion also covered the implementation of significant energy sector projects in Azerbaijan, including renewable energy, with optimism expressed about further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in this field. The broad agenda for future energy collaboration was underlined, accompanied by an exchange of views on upcoming projects," a statement on the website of the president said.

Aliyev also received Pakistani Petroleum Minister Pervaiz Malik.

"During the conversation, the sides recalled the recent trilateral meeting held in Lachin [on May 28] between the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, describing the event as a demonstration of brotherhood and solidarity among the three countries. They commended the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan across all sectors and emphasized that bilateral cooperation also covers the energy sector," the statement said.

They discussed cooperation prospects in the energy sphere, including renewables.

"Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik invited Azerbaijani companies to explore opportunities within Pakistan's energy sector," the statement said.

Aliyev also received the founder and chairman of Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power, Mohammad Abunayyan.

"They hailed the successful implementation of joint projects, including ACWA Power's role in the Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant project - set to become the largest of its kind in the Caucasus," the statement said.

The two sides discussed matters relating to their future cooperation.
