Italy proposes expanding energy cooperation with Kazakhstan

ASTANA. May 30 (Interfax) - Rome and Astana need to establish dialogue, and the countries could enhance their energy cooperation, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said.

"We view Kazakhstan as a strategic partner for Italy and this [Central Asian] region as a strategically important crossroads. We need dialogue, and you understand this very well. Our cooperation has always been very fruitful. But, as I said yesterday, there is always room to achieve more - from energy to culture," Meloni said during negotiations with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana.

In turn, Tokayev said that Italy is Kazakhstan's third-largest trading partner globally and the largest in Europe.

"I believe we should maintain the strong momentum of our cooperation. Undoubtedly, your visit will play a crucial role in giving additional impetus to the development of multifaceted ties between our two countries," he said.
