Peskov: Russian delegation to be ready to continue talks in Istanbul on June 2 morning

MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - The Russian delegation will be ready for continuing negotiations on a Ukraine settlement in Istanbul starting the morning of June 2, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"The Russian delegation of negotiators is departing for Istanbul and will be ready on Monday morning to continue the negotiations, the second round of those negotiations," Peskov told journalists on Friday.

The Kremlin is hoping that the draft memoranda of Russia and Ukraine will be discussed in Istanbul, but they will not be published.

"Of course, nothing will be published. This cannot [be] published. Both draft memoranda, those of Russia and Ukraine, will be discussed at the second round of negotiations, as we hope, which the Russian delegation will be ready to start in Istanbul on Monday morning," Peskov told the press in response to a question whether Russian President Vladimir Putin had a chance to familiarize himself with the Ukrainian draft memorandum and whether Peskov could share some of its provisions.

Reporters also asked Peskov whether Russia was ready to discuss the future of regional security with European representatives. As they recalled, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Keith Kellogg said earlier that U.S. representatives and German, French and British national security advisors would also gather in Istanbul on Monday.

"The future of European security needs to be discussed with the Europeans one way or another. There is no way to avoid this. As for Monday, we are taking only about direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul," Peskov said.
