Central Asian region gains strategic significance to Europe - Italian PM
ASTANA. May 29 (Interfax) - The Central Asian region has gained strategic significance to Europe, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said.
We regard Kazakhstan as a very important partner of Italy and the whole Europe. Besides, the Central Asian region has now gained strategic significance," Meloni told Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during a brief talk at the Astana airport.
Meloni thanked Tokayev for organizing the first Italy - Central Asia summit at the level of the heads of state.
"I think that this summit can become historical in our relations with the region. It is very important for us to strengthen cooperation at all levels at this difficult time," she said.
Tokayev said he is certain the upcoming talks will play an important and possibly key role in giving an additional impetus to Kazakh-Italian relations.
"Italy is a leading trade partner of Kazakhstan in Europe. A business forum attended by many Italian entrepreneurs took place in Astana yesterday and today. We highly appreciate your assistance in developing business ties between our countries," Tokayev said.
