Malaysian PM says stronger relations with Russia in all areas aim of his country's policy
MOSCOW. May 14 (Interfax) - Malaysia will strengthen relations with Russia in all areas, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
On behalf of his delegation, Anwar thanked Mishustin and Russian President Vladimir Putin for the invitation to visit Russia, adding that he had visited Vladivostok in September 2024 to attend the Eastern Economic Forum.
"I met with President Putin in Vladivostok last year, and since then our policy has been aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with the Russian Federation in all areas. We have enhanced our efforts. We have discussed energy, the digital sector, and transport. I understand that that are some restrictions due to sanctions. Hopefully, we will be able to work around them. I expect to have constructive meetings over the next few days, I expect that all outstanding issues will be solved," Anwar said.
"We count on constructive discussions on a number of issues that you have mentioned. We have six or seven priority areas," he said.
A meeting of the Russian-Malaysian intergovernmental commission took place earlier, he said.
"We will present our list of priorities at the meeting, because all of us want to achieve the results faster," Anwar said.
