Orban answers sharply to Zelensky regarding Ukraine's accession to EU
MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has made harsh remarks in reply to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's criticism of Hungary's approach toward Kiev's determination to join the European Union.
"Mr. President! What the Hungarian people think is not decided by the president in Kiev or the bureaucrats in Brussels. There is no Ukrainian EU accession without Hungary. Every Hungarian will have their say on this. Whether you like it or not. That's how we do things here," Ukrainian media quoted Orban as saying on his social account.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto had said previously in commenting on Zelensky's criticism of Hungary's opposition to Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU that Ukraine "must accept" it.
Zelensky earlier criticized the Hungarian government's attitude toward Ukraine's accession to the EU, insisting that most of Hungarians were supportive of Ukraine's EU membership.
