Julie Davis to lead U.S. embassy in Kiev - State Dept

WASHINGTON. May 5 (Interfax) - Julie Davis will assume the role of charge d'affaires a.i. to Ukraine, Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Tammy Bruce said.

"President [Donald] Trump and Secretary [of State Marco] Rubio have identified Ambassador Julie Davis to serve as the charge d'affaires in Kiev," Bruce said at a press briefing.

The U.S. embassy to Ukraine said on its website that Davis would lead the U.S. diplomatic mission and serve in this capacity until the White House nominated an ambassador to Ukraine.

Davis starts performing her new duties on May 5. Until lately, she has served as U.S. ambassador to Cyprus. Her previous appointments included her service as ambassador and special envoy to Belarus.

The U.S. Department of State had said in April that Bridget Brink appointed by the previous administration as ambassador to Ukraine was leaving her office.
