Kazakh-Chinese JV to build sorting hub, industrial park in Almaty region

ASTANA. April 10 (Interfax) - Kazakh-Chinese joint venture Qazpost-YTO LLP is planning to begin the construction of a sorting hub in the Almaty region in 2025, the Kazakh presidential press service said.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Chairman of China's YTO Express Group Yu Huijiao on Thursday, the press service said in a statement. Tokayev was informed about the operations of Qazpost-YTO, a joint venture established by Kazakhstan's national postal operator Kazpost JSC and China's YTO Express.

"The project aims to develop a modern and efficient courier delivery network across Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The construction of a sorting hub in the Almaty region is slated to start this year. The project will cut delivery times for postal shipments. Additionally, Qazpost-YTO intends to create an industrial park near the hub," the statement said.

Following the meeting, Tokayev stressed the strategic importance of such joint projects, describing them as "a model for effective cooperation between the state and international businesses."

YTO Express Group is a major Chinese private logistics company founded in May 2000 and headquartered in Shanghai. The company provides courier services in the largest cities of mainland China, as well as in Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

Kazpost, part of Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna, is Kazakhstan's national provider of postal services.
