European Investment Bank planning to open regional office in Uzbekistan
TASHKENT. April 3 (Interfax) - An agreement to establish a regional office of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Uzbekistan was signed on Thursday on the sidelines of the Central Asia-European Union summit in Samarkand, the press service of the president of Uzbekistan said.
The press service said that the opening of the office in Tashkent would expand cooperation and increase the volume of investments attracted to develop the "green" economy, innovative industry, and infrastructure in Uzbekistan and in Central Asia overall.
The EIB has been operating in Uzbekistan since February 2018. As reported, the bank has allocated over 300 million euros to support projects for water supply, energy efficiency, and restoration of the Aral Sea over the past period.
