Ex-Georgian President Zourabichvili asks European leaders to assess political situation in Georgia

TBILISI. March 19 (Interfax) - Former Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Wednesday forwarded a letter to the leaders of European countries to call on them to pay more attention to political processes ongoing in Georgia.

"As part of coordination between opposition parties, a joint letter signed by me today was forwarded to European leaders who will take part in a European Council meeting later this week, whose agenda doesn't contain Georgia," Zourabichvili said at a press briefing.

She said she urged European leaders to put Georgia on the agenda of the next European Council meeting in June, considering that "the ruling regime has switched to repressions against the opposition political spectrum and population."

Meanwhile, Georgian opposition parties have leveled increasingly more critical remarks at Zourabichvili in the past few weeks. United National Movement, the largest Georgian opposition party, said it did not recognize Zourabichvili's role as coordinator of Georgia's pro-Western opposition.

"We will never forgive Zourabichvili her refusal to pardon third Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili during her presidential term," United Opposition Movement leader Tina Bokuchava told journalists.
