Russia appoints Pyotr Konyushenko deputy energy minister

MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax) - The former head of nuclear energy supply company Atomenergosbyt, Pyotr Konyushenko has been appointed deputy energy minister of Russia, a government order (No. 591-r) dated March 13 and posted on the official website for legal information on Friday shows.

Atomenergosbyt parent company Rosenergoatom said earlier that in his new position Konyushenko will oversee the strategic development of the electricity sector and construction of key energy infrastructure.

Konyushenko became head of Atomenergosbyt in 2016. He previously also served as an advisor at NP Market Council and an aide to a deputy energy minister. It was also reported that he served as the executive director of Energostream for about six months in 2010.

Atomenergosbyt serviced nuclear industry enterprises until 2014, but then it was tasked with implementing Rosenergoatom parent company Rosatom's strategy to enter the retail electricity market. Atomenergosbyt divisions are now the electricity suppliers of last resort in the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
