Grain transportation by Ukrainian Railways down 17.4% in Jan-Feb 2025

MOSCOW. March 14 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) reduced its transportation of grain exports 17.4%, or by 496,300 tonnes, month-on-month to 2.363 million tonnes in February 2025, Ukrainian media cited deputy director of the company's commercial operations department Valery Tkachev as saying at a meeting of the Ukrzaliznytsia Office of Exporters on Wednesday.

Last month, transportation to ports dropped 17.3%, or by 455,700 tonnes, to 2.171 million tonnes, while the amount transported via land border crossing went down 17.5%, or by 40,600 tonnes, to 192,100 tonnes, Tkachev said.

"Compared to February 2024/2025, the transportation of grain for export fell 28.5% (or by 941,100 tonnes)," he said.

Ukrainian Railways transported around 5.223 million tonnes of grain exports in January-February 2025, which is 21.7%, or 1.448 million tonnes, fewer than in the same period of 2024, he said.

Of this amount, approximately 4.798 million tonnes were transported to ports, and 424,900 via land border crossings.

Thus, traffic to ports accounts for 92% of all grain exports transported by Ukrainian Railways, with the share of traffic through land border crossings standing at only 8%.
