Cargo transportation by Ukrainian Railways down 8.4% in Jan-Feb 2025
MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Cargo transportation by Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) dropped 8.4% year-on-year to 26.28 million tonnes in January-February 2025, Ukrainian media said, citing deputy director of the company's commercial operations department Valery Tkachev as saying at a meeting of the Ukrainian Railways Office of Exporters on Wednesday.
Cargo transportation declined on all routes. Cargo transportation by rail inside the country fell 5.4% to 10.85 million tonnes, while export shipments went down 9.1% to 13.87 million tonnes. Imports dropped 15.2% to 1.52 million tonnes and transit shipments plummeted 70.4% to 40,000 tonnes.
Exports accounted for 53% and imports for 6% of all cargoes transported by Ukrainian Railways in January-February 2025, same as in the first two months of 2024. The share of domestic traffic increased from 40% to 41%.
As previously reported, cargo transportation by Ukrainian Railways fell 0.9% year-on-year and 0.2% month-on-month to 14 million tonnes in January 2025.
