Situation in Russia's economy generally stable; particular attention focused on construction, auto industry, coalmining - Novak

MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - The situation in the sectors of Russia's economy and in systemically important organizations is generally stable, with special attention being paid to the construction industry, transport engineering and the auto industry, and the coal industry, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin and the government.

Novak recalled that the government has resumed the work of the subcommittee on improving the stability of the financial sector and individual sectors of the economy [which Novak heads], and is monitoring the situation in more than 2,000 systemically important enterprises.

"We have currently already reviewed nine key sectors of the economy, namely industry, transport, agriculture, machine engineering, and others," Novak said.

In the near future, "we plan to examine the current situation in the production of mineral fertilizers, in the construction of fishing vessels, in housing and communal services and in energy," he said.

"In general, the situation is stable at the moment, and there are no systemic problems. Meantime, of course, we are paying special attention to the situation in certain industries and organizations that have fallen into the risk zone in accordance with monitoring, primarily in terms of solvency indicators or the need for loan restructuring. First of all, this concerns housing construction, the coal industry, transport engineering and the auto industry," Novak said. According to him, separate meetings are constantly held for companies and industries that are within special attention, "in general, more than 40 support measures have already been developed."

"Monitoring of industries and systemically important organizations shows that the situation is generally under control and fairly stable. Meantime, there are certainly industries that require special attention and support, which I have just mentioned," Novak said.
