Russian PM says there is potential for boosting cooperation with Myanmar in energy, nuclear energy, agriculture

MOSCOW. March 4 (Interfax) - Russia and Myanmar are actively developing trade and economic cooperation despite sanctions, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at a meeting with his Myanmar counterpart Min Aung Hlaing.

"Despite the illegal sanctions imposed on Russia and Myanmar, our trade and economic cooperation have been successfully developing, and bilateral trade has been growing. There is a potential for boosting cooperation in energy, nuclear energy, transport infrastructure and agriculture," Mishustin said. He said the sides are considering new joint projects in telecom and information technologies, food industry, and extraction and processing of mineral resources.

As he welcomed the Myanmar prime minister to the House of Government in Moscow, Mishustin described Myanmar as an important partner of Russia in the Asia Pacific region.

"This year, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Joint Declaration of Fundamentals of Friendship between Russia and Myanmar. I have no doubt that your visit will give a fresh impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Myanmar in all areas, while the government will ensure the strict fulfillment of the agreements to be reached after your negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin," Mishustin said.
