Abkhazia's CEC declares Gunba president-elect
SUKHUM. March 4 (Interfax) - The Abkhaz Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced on Monday the final results of the country's presidential election, which was won by incumbent Abkhaz Vice President Badra Gunba with 54.73% of the vote.
"The Abkhaz CEC at its session on March 3 endorsed the final results of the presidential election in Abkhazia that took place on March 1," the CEC's press service said.
According to the CEC, 54,954 voters (54.73%) voted for Gunba, while 41,708 (41.54%) voted for his opponent and opposition leader Adgur Ardzinba.
In total, 143,651 citizens were included in the list for voting. In total, 100,412 people (68.62%) took part in the voting. As many as 2,065 votes were cast against all candidates, while 1,687 ballots were recognized as invalid.
In accordance with the Abkhaz electoral legislation, the inauguration of the Abkhaz president-elect should take place one month after the CEC announces the final results of the election.
The presidential election in Abkhazia was held on Saturday.
