Trump says he feels Zelensky not prepared for settling Ukraine conflict for now
WASHINGTON. Feb 28 (Interfax) - United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that, in his opinion, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was not prepared for a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine conflict for the time being.
"I have determined that President Zelensky is not ready for peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him big advantage in negotiations. I don't want advantage, I want peace," Trump wrote on Truth Social following his talks with Zelensky at the White House.
Zelensky "can come back when he is ready for peace," Trump said.
Commenting further on his meeting with Zelensky, Trump said also, "It's amazing what comes out through emotion."
During their meeting at the White House earlier in the day, Trump and Zelensky had a verbal exchange, the U.S. president accusing his Ukrainian counterpart of a disrespectful attitude.
Shortly after the conclusion of the part of the meeting attended by members of the press, the talks between Trump and Zelensky were wrapped up, and their joint press conference was cancelled, after which the Ukrainian president left the White House.
