Ukrainian Justice Ministry is beneficiary or recipient of 2 suspended USAID projects

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Justice Ministry is a beneficiary or recipient of two projects implemented in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

"The Ukrainian Justice Ministry is a beneficiary and/or recipient of such international technical assistance projects, a development partner of which is the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as Justice for All and Digital Transportation Activity (DTA)," Ukrainian media said, citing the Justice Ministry's response to a related enquiry.

The international technical assistance projects have been suspended, as they stopped receiving funds from the U.S. government, it said.

"Please note that the Ukrainian Justice Ministry is establishing and developing cooperation with other development partners to support the activity formerly funded through USAID projects," the ministry said.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Justice Minister Olga Stepanishina said earlier that a number of commissions selecting candidates for the judiciary and the police had paused their activity due to suspended USAID operations. This includes the Ethics Council, the Public Council of International Experts, the Commission for the Selection of the Head of the Bureau of Economic Security, and the Commission for the Selection of Judges of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court.

As reported, USAID Ukraine was told to suspend financing of all projects in the wake of the U.S. Department of State's order to suspend programs of assistance to foreign states for 90 days.

The media that that the Ukrainian Sport Ministry was a beneficiary of one project and a recipient of another two projects financed by the U.S. government through USAID. The Digital Transformation Ministry keeps working on digital projects started in partnership with USAID. The Culture Ministry is a beneficiary of four projects and programs and a recipient of one project implemented together with USAID. The Social Policy Ministry is a recipient of two projects implemented together with USAID, financing of which has been suspended.
