Rosatom to convert, enrich uranium in Brazil
MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Russian state corporation Rosatom has won a Brazilian tender to provide conversion and enrichment services for domestically produced uranium, the corporate publication Strana Rosatom said.
The contract signed by Rosatom with the Brazilian state company Industrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB) is "worth around $40 million," it said.
It is expected that Brazilian uranium will be processed at Russian enterprises.
At present, Rosatom provides Brazil with an "enriched uranium product used for making fuel for the Angra NPP [nuclear power plant]," Strana Rosatom said. "The new contract opens up prospects of further expanding the cooperation, including increasing the volumes of enriched-uranium shipments," the publication said.
In late 2022, Internexco GmbH, a subsidiary of Rosatom's nuclear materials exporting company Tenex, and INB agreed on shipments of enriched-uranium products. The contract stipulates supplying Angra NPP with the fuel in 2023-2027.
In 2019 Tenex and Brazilian company signed an agreement of intention on joint projects in the area of nuclear fuel cycle (NFC). Russia also offered Brazilian partners its solutions concerning the completion of the Angra NPP.
