Latvia tightens control over goods from Belarus, Russia - Belarusian customs

MINSK. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Latvia has introduced enhanced control measures for goods passing through border checkpoints with Belarus and Russia, the Belarusian State Customs Committee said on Monday.

"Latvian authorities claim that violations continue to be detected in food and feed shipments from Belarus and Russia, raising concerns about their safety. As a result, a decision has been made to impose additional controls on shipments where goods of Russian or Belarusian origin make up at least 10%, as well as on certain product categories transported as part of consolidated cargo," the committee said.

"Control measures include official identification, physical inspection, and supervisory procedures, including sample collection for laboratory testing," it said.

The enhanced control procedures will remain in effect until June 30 this year, it said.
