Russia's, Myanmar's central banks working on mutual opening of companies' direct accounts in their banks
NAYPYIDAW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - The central banks of Russia and Myanmar have discussed the prospects of expanding the points of Mir cards acceptance in Myanmar and the possibility of the mutual opening of direct accounts of companies in the countries' banks, Deputy Governor of Russia's Central Bank Alexei Guznov said following talks as part of the meeting of the Russian-Myanmar intergovernmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation.
"The Mir cards are accepted here in Myanmar. Unfortunately, far from everywhere still. It is a prospect of our cooperation. But over 60 terminals are already operating. We are currently discussing the issue of the operations of ATM, in which Russian tourists could receive cash, if they travel to Myanmar," Guznov said on Sunday.
"We have just had a very good discussion of the prospects of cooperation and investments in Myanmar, and all that requires further development of interaction in the banking sector," he said.
"Including on the mechanism of opening accounts of Russian businesses already directly in Myanmar's banks and also, otherwise, of businesses from Myanmar in Russian banks," he said.
