EEC, Iran discuss green corridor for Eurasian Agroexpress goods transit project
MINSK. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The Eurasian Economic Commission has held talks with Iranian partners on cooperation in the Eurasian Agroexpress project, the EEC press service said.
"At today's meeting, we wanted to invite our Iranian partners to discuss the principles of a green corridor for transit deliveries within the framework of the project, increasing the cargo base in the Iran-EAEU direction, as well as raising awareness among the Iranian business community about the project and the opportunities it offers, " Vladimir Serpikov, Director of the EEC Trade Policy Department, was quoted as saying.
"The parties emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of digitalization, including the use of navigation seals and QR codes for cargo, as well as in the construction of new transport and logistics centers," the press office said.
"The deputy head of the Iranian Trade Promotion Organisation, Mohammad-Sadegh Ghanadzadeh, gave his full backing to the intensification of cooperation and expressed his readiness to start resolving the issues identified by the EEC," the report said.
The parties stressed the need to simplify customs procedures and to provide information to participants in foreign economic activities through a digital service.
They agreed to consider relevant issues at the meetings of the Subcommittee on Cooperation in the Field of Transport and Transit, which will be created as part of the implementation of a full-fledged free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran.
Eurasian Agroexpress, a joint project of the EAEU countries on the accelerated rail and multimodal transport for regular mutual supplies of agricultural and food products, was supported by the order of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council dated February 25, 2022. By the order of the Intergovernmental Council dated February 3, 2023, the project was extended to the routes of the North-South corridor.
