Russia to supply additional amount of electricity to Abkhazia
SUKHUM. Feb 11 (Interfax) - Russia will provide an additional amount of electricity to Abkhazia to maintain reliable power supply to the republic's population, the Abkhaz Energy and Transport Ministry said in a statement.
"Under the contract signed between Inter Rao and Chernomorenergo, Russia's commercial electricity supplies to Abkhazia will stand at 182 million kWh, costing 830 million rubles in total," it said.
These additional deliveries will be funded by Russia's financial assistance provided to Abkhazia in 2024 that was not received by the republic in full, it said.
The ministry is grateful to the Russian side for its support and cooperation in the energy sector, the statement said.
Abkhazia traditionally encounters power shortages in the fall-winter season due to lower water levels in the Ingur Hydropower Plant's reservoir.
Abkhazia has no centralized heating system and households rely solely on electricity for heating.
