Kyrgyzstan, China sign declaration on solidifying strategic partnership

BISHKEK. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan and China have signed a number of bilateral documents, including a declaration on solidifying the comprehensive strategic partnership, as well as a cooperation program to promote the Belt and Road Initiative, the press service of the Kyrgyz president said on Wednesday.

"As part of the state visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to China, talks were held with Chinese President Xi Jinping, following which a joint statement was adopted on solidifying the comprehensive strategic partnership," according to the statement.

The two countries' respective governments have signed a cooperation program to promote the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as a number of other agreements.

Kyrgyzstan's Economy and Commerce Ministry and China's Culture and Tourism Ministry have specifically signed a memorandum on facilitating group tourist trips between the two countries. The parties have also agreed to work on the construction of checkpoint infrastructure at the Kyrgyzstan-China border.

As previously reported, the meeting with China's chairman occurred as part of the state visit of Kyrgyzstan's president to China.
