Azerbaijani president, Croatian PM discuss increased Azerbaijani gas supplies to Croatia
BAKU. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic discussed the prospects for increasing Azerbaijani gas supplies to Croatia in Davos on Wednesday.
"The Azerbaijani president and the Croatian prime minister praised the current level of relations between the two countries, particularly noting cooperation in the energy sector. The role of Azerbaijan in Croatia's energy security, as well as the export of oil and gas from Azerbaijan to Croatia, was particularly emphasized, and the prospects for increasing the volume of gas exports were discussed," the Azerbaijani president's website said in a statement.
Azerbaijan is currently exporting gas to ten European countries, eight of which are members of the European Union, Aliyev said.
"The parties exchanged views on promoting cooperation between our countries in various areas and Azerbaijan's relations with the European Union, and the intergovernmental commission's role was noted at the meeting," the statement said.
As previously reported, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has started gas supplies to Croatia from September 1, 2024. Deliveries are carried out through PPD and MET Group. The volumes of supplies are not specified.
Croatia is also one of the major buyers of oil from Azerbaijan. According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, oil supplies to Croatia in 2024 exceeded 1.4 million tonnes worth $873.4 million. Croatia became the third largest oil purchaser from Azerbaijan by the end of 2024.
