Lukashenko willing to nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize if he becomes peacemaker

MINSK. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said he would support United States President Donald Trump's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize if the latter really becomes a peacemaker.

"If you are a peacemaker, then work to make sure that there are no wars. That is something you can do. That is because Americans have always unleashed these wars. Alternatively, they have pushed for wars. If you do that, you know, you want to be a Nobel Prize winner, and we will also support you and nominate you. Although the Nobel Prize doesn't mean anything there," Lukashenko was quoted by the BelTA state news agency as saying while talking to the workers of the Minsk Automobile Plant on Tuesday.

Lukashenko said he is sure that the U.S. will no longer be able to dominate the world alone. "No China they will ever take down or overwhelm," he said.

Lukashenko described Trump's statements about the U.S. territorial claims to Canada and Greenland as fakes made for the sake of publicity in the media.

"I think these are such fake statements that will never be materialized. It is all for the media, it is a pomp. And tomorrow he may come out and say, 'I'll drop a nuclear bomb on Canada if it does not become the 51st state.' Something else. Whether he will do it, no he will not. Alternatively, 'I'll take Greenland tomorrow.' What do you need it for? You're already there, your Armed Forces. You can do what you want there," Lukashenko said. The U.S. should pursue such a policy so that it is "not looked at obliquely" in other countries, he said.

"Alternatively, make claims to Panama that it is not maintaining the Panama Canal in the right way. That's the wrong way they set prices, with some prices to the Chinese and others to the Americans. This is because it is their property. And you yourself, you want to raise duties by 25% for Canadians and others. You will make Canadians miserable. These fakes do not give credibility to the country," Lukashenko said.
