Belarus maintains natural gas consumption in 2024 at last year's level of 17 bcm

MINSK. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Consumption of natural gas in Belarus totaled 17 billion cubic meters in 2024, which is equal to the level of 2023, the Belarusian Energy Ministry said.

"In 2024, 17 billion cubic meters of natural gas were supplied to the country's consumers," the ministry's press service said.

The country's liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption amounted to 43,300 tonnes last year. "Over the past ten years, LPG consumption has decreased by half. This is due to the construction of new natural gas networks and electrification," it said.

The length of natural gas transportation networks in Belarus will increase by 700 km or 1% in 2025, reaching 68,700 km, the ministry said. Plans are in place to provide gas infrastructure for around 10,000 households and 40 communities.

In Belarus, all 115 cities, 118 district centers, 85 urban, industrial, and resort communities as well as more than 3,700 rural settlements and agricultural towns have access to natural gas infrastructure, it said.

Gas consumption in Belarus fell by 1.7 bcm or 9.6% to 17 bcm in 2023, the ministry said.
