World Bank, EU finance subsidies to Ukrainian farmers - govt officials
MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - As many as 27,614 Ukrainian farming businesses and other agricultural producers have received UAH 1.98 billion in subsidies with support from the World Bank in 2024, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry.
In particular, 10,447 farmers received budget subsidies on a per hectare basis totaling over UAH 1.15 billion, another 15,252 farmers subsidies for keeping cattle (cows) of all types of productivity totaling over UAH 620 million, and 1,915 farmers special budget subsidies for keeping pedigree goats and/or sheep totaling over UAH 207 million, it said.
Media also reported citing Prime Minister Denis Shmygal as saying on his social account that Ukraine received 150 million euros from the EU to finance free meals for grade 1 to 4 school students, upgrade infrastructure, and maintain uninterrupted agricultural production.
This is a second tranche under an agreement between Ukraine and the EU for providing Kiev with 300 million euros to facilitate the country's rapid reconstruction, he said.
