Tajikistan planning to attract around $6.3 bln in investment to develop transport infrastructure
DUSHANBE. Nov 19 (Interfax) - The Tajik authorities are planning in the near future to attract around $6.3 billion for transport infrastructure and to ensure the development and stable functioning of regional and international corridors, Transport Minister Azim Ibrohim said at the 18th Transport of Russia 2024 international forum and exhibition, being held as part of Transport Week 2024.
Tajikistan attaches great significance to developing stable regional and international transport links, he said. Efforts to establish the conditions needed for the functioning of transport and transit corridors between Russia and Central Asia have an important place in this field, he said.
"Central Asia's geographic position serves as a bridge between the countries of the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, and the roads and transport infrastructure being built in our region are turning it into a full-scale transit hub," he said.
The Tajik government is taking comprehensive measures to develop international transport corridors that run through Tajikistan, he said.
"Our goal is to fully integrate the country's transport system into the global system. In this context, we have been increasing our efforts in recent years to effectively use the China-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey corridor and further, ensuring the shortest possible route to European markets, among others. We plan to build several regional and international logistics facilities in Tajikistan," he said.
Dozens of projects worth $5 billion have been devised for railway transport alone, he said. "We are counting on full efforts from the region's countries in implementing these plans, including by drawing the required investment and expanding and diversifying international lines," he said.
