Lavrov to head Russian delegation to G20 summit in Brazil

MOSCOW. Nov 13 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will head the national delegation to the G20 summit in Brazil on November 18-19, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"The next G20 summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19. On the orders from the president of the Russian Federation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will lead the national delegation to the event," Zakharova said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

At the Brazilian president's initiative, the summit will begin with the launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, and Russia plans to announce its accession to the alliance at the summit, she said.

On November 18, Lavrov will speak at plenary sessions of the G20 summit on fighting inequality, hunger and poverty and on reforming global institutions.

"A series of bilateral negotiations and contacts of the Russian foreign minister is planned on the summit sidelines," Zakharova said.
