New grain terminal with capacity of 1 mln tonnes opens at Kuryk seaport in Kazakhstan
ASTANA. Nov 12 (Interfax) - A new grain terminal, Kaspi Grain Way, with annual throughput capacity of 1 million tonnes, has opened at the Kuryk seaport in Kazakhstan's Mangistau region, the Kazakh Transport Ministry said.
"The terminal is expected to increase Kazakhstan's grain exports to Iran and the Caucasus region," it said.
The terminal has 18 silos with combined storage capacity of 28,000 tonnes of grain, and conveyors capable of handling 300 tonnes per hour. Currently, around 14,000 tonnes of barley are stored at the terminal. The terminal shipped its first cargo of 3,500 tonnes of barley via Kuryk port's No. 4 pier on November 9.
This terminal is part of Kazakhstan's 2024-2028 Sea Infrastructure Development Plan. The construction agreement, signed with railway operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy in 2021, initially targeted completion in 2022. Located 90 km from Aktau, Kuryk port has cargo handling capacity of 6 million tonnes per year, transferring grain, oil products, fertilizers, chemicals and other goods from rail and road to ferry transport.
