Ukraine stepping up corn exports to Malawi
MOSCOW. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Ukraine has shipped 14,500 tonnes of corn to Malawi under the Grain From Ukraine program and is to deliver another 5,000 tonnes there within weeks, Ukrainian media quoted Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky as saying on his social account.
Malawi is experiencing a devastating drought this year, which has destroyed a significant portion of its local corn production and caused a severe food shortage, Zelensky said.
"This delivery of Ukrainian corn will help to stabilize the situation and provide for the monthly needs of over 1.5 million Malawians," Zelensky said.
"Ukraine's goal is not only to provide food in times of need, but also to share knowledge and technology with our African partners to help them become more self-sufficient and independent in agricultural production," he said.
